IELTS for Canada from Zimbabwe requires choosing the correct test and checking your application route. Express Entry accepts IELTS General Training, not IELTS Academic. Academic IELTS is commonly used for university admission, where the institution sets its own requirements. Do not assume that admission and immigration use the same evidence.
IELTS General Training scores for CLB 9 and CLB 10
CLB 9 minimums are Listening 8.0, Reading 7.0, Writing 7.0 and Speaking 7.0. CLB 10 minimums are Listening 8.5, Reading 8.0, Writing 7.5 and Speaking 7.5. CLB is assessed for each ability. These targets can affect ranking points, but neither guarantees an invitation or immigration approval.
Match your preparation to the right pathway
Check the English evidence required by your immigration programme or educational institution. Express Entry also accepts other approved English tests, including PTE Core; PTE Academic is a different test. Do not book based only on the name IELTS or PTE. Verify the version, validity period and score requirements before paying an exam fee.
Build a plan for each skill
General Training preparation includes letters for Writing Task 1, alongside Task 2 essays. Listening is particularly important if you are targeting CLB 9 because its minimum is 8.0. Practise all four skills and review errors systematically. IELTS Speaking has the same assessment criteria regardless of your intended destination; there is no separate Canadian-topic test. Preparation time depends on your starting level and progress.
